Document suitability
What can be signed electronically?
Many everyday agreements can use an electronic signing process, but the correct answer depends on the document, required formalities, risk and transaction context.
Updated 25 July 2026
Start with the required formality
Ask whether the document must be in writing, signed, witnessed, notarised, registered, delivered in original form or signed using an advanced electronic signature. The answer may come from legislation, regulation, an existing agreement, industry rules or the receiving organisation’s policy.
At a glance
Find the row your document belongs to, then check the last column before you send.
| Group | Typical documents | Before you send |
|---|
| Often suitable | Service agreements, engagement letters, internal approvals, policy acknowledgements, permissions, administrative forms and many ordinary commercial records. | Subject to the particular facts: confirm no contract, policy or other party prescribes a different method. |
| Review first | Property, estate-planning, surety, consumer-credit, employment, corporate-authority and regulated-sector documents. | These can contain special requirements. The label alone is not enough: review the exact instrument and transaction. |
| Outside an ordinary workflow | Transactions excluded from ordinary electronic treatment, or that need a handwritten or advanced electronic signature, witnessing, notarisation, registration or the original document. | Use the prescribed process. LulaSign should not be used to bypass it. |
Questions to ask about any document
| Question | Why it matters |
|---|
| Is electronic signing legally permitted? | Some transaction types or formalities may be excluded or prescribed. |
| Is an advanced electronic signature required? | An ordinary electronic signing workflow is not interchangeable with an accredited advanced signature. |
| Does another party prescribe a method? | A bank, regulator, customer or internal policy may require a specific process. |
| How will identity and authority be assessed? | Higher-risk transactions may need stronger checks than email delivery alone. |
| What evidence and retention are required? | The record must remain available and explainable for the relevant period. |
When uncertain
Pause the send, identify the legal and operational requirements, and seek advice. LulaSign’s support contact can explain product behaviour but cannot replace transaction-specific legal advice.
